In the wake of attacks against women, the 2018 film
directed by Hannes Baumgartner, ‘Midnight Runner’, will reach the audience at
the 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
The debut directorial of Baumgartner is a drama on
a well-known top athlete who evolves into a serial offender, thanks to his
various courses of life. The fact that the entire story is based on the real
life and ways of a person makes it a deep-sea excavation of the complexities
and internal conflicts of human mind. It reflects the hypocrisy and duality of
the person, thus giving a statement on the entire mankind.
It, from the eyes of the sportsman turned criminal,
screens his life and his ways, thereby taking the audience into the roots of
the violence dealt against women. When the man uses his fame and popularity as
a mask for domination, it is a wake-up call for all of us.
