For
film enthusiasts, 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) brings a
golden opportunity to watch some of the great films of Ingmar Bergman. Bergman,
one of the giants of world cinema, doesn’t need any introduction among film
lovers across the world. The Swedish director, who had a deep understanding of
the human conditions and the layers of emotions, mostly dealt with the
universal ideas of guilt, death, loneliness, and God’s silence in his films. He
left a unique imprint on each of his films. Bergman’s films were influenced by
Freudian theories and the multiple Oscar winning directors’ works are is still
screened around the globe.
This
year marks the centenary of the maestro, who directed over 60 films. 23rd IFFK
will commemorate the legendary filmmaker. His films ‘Summer with Monica’,
‘Smiles of Summer Night’, ‘Summer Interlude’, ‘Persona’, ‘Cries and Whispers’,
‘Autumn Sonata’, ‘Scenes from a Marriage’, ‘Fanny and Alexander’ will be
screened under the ‘Celebrating Ingmar Bergman’ package. 'Searching for Ingmar
Bergman', a documentary about the director, is also scheduled to screen on the
final day.
