A miscellany of 90
films from across the globe awaits film buffs at the 23rd edition of the
International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). Dedicated cinephiles have an
opportunity to pick and choose from an olio of films, many of which have won
several accolades in major international film festivals.
Besides, 26 films will have their Indian premieres and two their Asian premieres at festival.
The mix-bag includes Kim Ki-duk’s ‘Human, Space, Time, and Human’, Jean-Luc Godard’s ‘The Image Book’, Spike Lee’s ‘BlacKkKlansman’, Lars von Trier’s ‘The House That Jack Built’, Olivier Assayas’s ‘Non-Fiction’, and Jafar Panahi’s ‘3 Faces’.
Hirokazu Kore-eda’s ‘Shoplifters’, which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes, Ali Abbasi’s ‘Border’, which won the Un Certain Regard Award, Sergei Loznitsa’s Un Certain Regard Award for Best Director winning ‘Donbass’, are some of the festival favorites slated to be screened.
Claire Denis with ‘High Life’, Naomi Kawase with ‘Vision’, and Mia Jansen-Love with ‘Maya’, are the most notable female directors in the section.
Palme d’Or winner Jacques Audiard’s ‘The Sisters Brothers’, Venice International Film Festival Golden Lion winner Samuel Maoz’s ‘Foxtrot’ Sameh Zoabi’s ‘Tel Aviv On Fire’, Benjamin Naishtat’s ‘Rojo’, are those lined up for their Indian premieres.
Joao Botelho’s ‘Pilgrimage’ and Lucia Morat’s ‘Paris Square’ will have their Asian premieres. Other acclaimed films include Gaspar Noe’s ‘Climax’, Pawel Pawlikowski’s ‘Cold War’ and Alvaro Brechner’s ‘A Twelve Year Night’.
