“A man always has the
capability of belonging in two different extremes at the same time; like a
quest to achieve nirvana or experience enlightenment can be one and he turning
himself into a rapist can be the other. It never ceases to amaze me how the very
same extremes exist within the same man”, said filmmaker Tashi Gyeltshen at the
‘Meet the Press’ session at the 23rd IFFK.
Discussing about his
film in the segment, the filmmaker of ‘The Red Phallus’, which is part of the
International Competition, said that he believes that everyone has the
capability to attain ‘Bodhicitta’ or enlightenment.
“More than any other
issues, ‘Sivaranjini and Two Other Women’ concentrates mainly on finding one’s
own voice”, said filmmaker Vasanth S Sai. “We don’t mind women wearing denims
or them playing cricket or football compared to the 90’s, but I don’t feel like
there is a any change in our society’s attitude and how they treat women. We
all know a ‘Sivaranjini’”, he added.
During the session,
debut Malayalam directors Zakariya and Sumesh Lal shared their experiences of
making their films.
Chairman of International
Competition Selection Committee, Meera Sahib was present in the session.
