Turkish film director, photographer, screenwriter, and actor Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s ‘The Wild Pear Tree’ will feature under the World Cinema package at the 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). The Palme d’Or winning filmmaker is no new name among cinephiles – his films ‘Three Monkeys’ (2008), ‘Once Upon A Time in Anatolia’ (2011), and ‘Winter Sleep’ (2014), have featured in previous years’ festivals.
The acclaimed craftsman is renowned for his portrayal of intricate human emotions, estrangement of the individual, and daily life monotony. Long takes and silences, and filming his protagonist from behind, are styles frequently employed by the filmmaker, who won the 2008 Cannes Film Festival Best Director award.
The Turkish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, Ceylan’s ‘The Wild Pear Tree’ will be screened on December 9, in the Tagore Theatre at 08.30 PM.
