It is premieres galore
at the 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK)!
Best picks from Venice
and Berlin festivals alongside debut Asian Premieres will be part of the
season.
Highlights include
International films including Oscar nominated ‘Pilgrimage’.
Five films in the
‘International Competition’ and three films in the ‘World Cinema’ category will
have their first Asian screening at the IFFK this year.
’Poisonous Roses’,
‘Debt’, ‘The Graveless’, ‘Tale of the Sea’ and ‘The Bed’ will be screened under
‘International Competition’ category and ‘Paris Square’ by Lucia Murat, ‘
Horizon’ by Tinatin Kajrishvili and ‘Pilgrimage’ by Joao Botelho are set to be
screened under the World Cinema category.
‘Poisonous Roses’ by
Ahmed Fawzi Saleh, which was part of the 2018 Cairo International Film Festival,
tells the story of siblings Saqr and Taheya who live in a grubby Egyptian
Tanner’s district.
Spanish movie ‘The Bed’
by Monica Lairana is about couple Jorge and Mabel who decided to part ways and
are spending their last day as a couple in their family home. The film
portrays the complexities of life and relationships when the two eat, cry, have
sex and laugh and finally abandon their house and bond. ‘The Bed’ was screened
as part of Berlin International Film Festival and New Horizons International
Film Festival.
Two of the Premier
films, ‘The Graveless’ by Iranian director Mostafa Sayyari and ‘Debt’ by
Turkish director Vuslat Saracoglu are debut ventures by the directors.
