14 films for International Competition

Four Indian films.
‘Ee.Ma.Yau.’ and ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ Malayalam films.

Fourteen films from across the globe, showcasing the nuances of life from all shades and walks will be screened at the 23rd edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).

In the International Competition category five of the films will have their Asian premieres, while two their Indian premieres at the festival.

Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Ee.Ma.Yau’ and Zakariya’s ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ are the Malayalam films in the Competition section. Anamika Haksar’s Hindi film ‘Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon’ and Praveen Morchhale’s ‘Widow of Silence’ are the other Indian films.

Tashi Gyeltshen’s ‘The Red Phallus’, Luis Ortega’s ‘El Angel’, Ahmed Fawzi Saleh’s ‘Poisonous Roses’, Rouhollah Hejazi’s ‘Dark Room’, Vuslat Saracoglu’s ‘Debt’, Temirbek Birnazarov’s ‘Night Accident’, Mostafa Sayyari’s ‘The Graveless’, Beatriz Seigner’s ‘The Silence’, Bahman Farmanara’s ‘Tale of the Sea’, and Monica Lairana’s ‘The Bed’ are the other films in the competition category.

ഇന്ന് 65 ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍, ബുള്‍ബുള്‍ കാന്‍ സിങ്ങിന്റെ ആദ്യ പ്രദര്‍ശനം

അഞ്ച് മത്സര ചിത്രങ്ങളുടെ അവസാന പ്രദര്‍ശനമുള്‍പ്പടെ 65 ചിത്രങ്ങളുടെ പ്രദര്‍ശനത്തിന് രാജ്യാന്തര ചലച്ചിത്രമേള ഇന്ന് (ബുധന്‍) വേദിയാകും. പോട്ട്പൗരി ഇന്ത്യ വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ വില്ലേജ് റോക്സ്റ്റാര്‍ എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലൂടെ പ്രസിദ്ധയായ റിമാ ദാസിന്റെ ബുള്‍ബുള്‍ കാന്‍ സിങ്ങി ന്റെ ആദ്യ പ്രദര്‍ശനം നടക്കും. തന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരിക്കുണ്ടായ ദുരനുഭവത്തിലൂടെ ഗ്രാമീണ ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ വൈരുദ്ധ്യങ്ങള്‍ തിരിച്ചറിയുന്ന ബുള്‍ബുളിന്റെ ജീവിതകഥയാണ് ചിത്രത്തന്റെ പ്രമേയം. രാവിലെ 11.45 ന് നിളയിലാണ് പ്രദര്‍ശനം. മത്സര ചിത്രങ്ങളായ ടെയില്‍ ഓഫ് ദി സീ, ദി ഗ്രേവ്‌ലെസ്സ്, എല്‍ ഏയ്ഞ്ചല്‍, ഡെബ്റ്റ്, ദി ബെഡ് എന്നിവയുടെ പ്രദര്‍ശനവും ഇന്ന് നടക്കും. റോജോ, ഡൈ റ്റുമാറോ, ബോര്‍ഡര്‍, കാപ്പര്‍നം, ഷോപ്‌ലിഫ്‌റ്റേര്‍സ് എന്നിവയടക്കം ലോക സിനിമാ വിഭാഗത്തിലെ 25 ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ ആസ്വദിക്കാനുള്ള അവസരവും ഇന്നുണ്ടാകും. ഹോപ്പ് ആന്‍ഡ് റീബില്‍ഡിങ് വിഭാഗത്തിലെ പോപ്പ് ഫ്രാന്‍സിസ് :എ മാന്‍ ഓഫ് ഹിസ് വേഡ് ന്റെ ഏക പ്രദര്‍ശനവും ഇന്നാണ്.മലയാള സിനിമ ഇന്ന് വിഭാഗത്തില്‍ കോട്ടയം, ഓത്ത്, മായാനദി, പറവ, ഹ്യൂമന്‍സ് ഓഫ് സംവണ്‍ എന്നിവയുടെയും ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സിനിമ നൗ വിഭാഗത്തിലെ ഡോ.ബ

ട്രോളുകള്‍ ഭയന്ന് സ്വതന്ത്രാഭിപ്രായം ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നതായി നന്ദിതാദാസ്

സോഷ്യല്‍ മീഡിയയിലെ ട്രോളുകള്‍ ഭയന്ന് പ്രശസ്തര്‍ പല വിഷയങ്ങളിലും സ്വതന്ത്രമായി അഭിപ്രായം പറയാന്‍ മടിക്കുന്നതായി നടിയും സംവിധായികയുമായ നന്ദിതാദാസ്. സോഷ്യല്‍ മീഡിയ ഒരു മികച്ച പ്ലാറ്റ്‌ഫോമാണെങ്കിലും സ്വതന്ത്രമായ അഭിപ്രായങ്ങള്‍ പലതരത്തിലുള്ള വിമര്‍ശനങ്ങളേയും നേരിടേണ്ടിവരുമെന്നും അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. രാജ്യാന്തര ചലച്ചിത്രമേളയോടനുബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള ഓപ്പണ്‍ ഫോറത്തില്‍ പങ്കെടുക്കുകയായിരുന്നു അവര്‍. ജനാധിപത്യത്തിലെ പൊതുയിടങ്ങള്‍ നഷ്ടപ്പെടുകയാണ്. അത് വീണ്ടെടുക്കാന്‍ സ്വതന്ത്ര ചിന്താഗതിക്കാര്‍ ഒരുമിക്കണം. അഭിപ്രായസ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിന് വേണ്ടി പൊരുതണമെന്നും അവര്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കി. ജനാധിപത്യത്തില്‍ സെന്‍സര്‍ഷിപ്പിന് സ്ഥാനമില്ലെന്ന് മലയാളി സംവിധായകന്‍ ജയന്‍ ചെറിയാന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. അവകാശങ്ങള്‍ നഷ്ടപ്പെടുമ്പോഴുള്ള നിശബ്ദത ഫാസിസ്റ്റുകള്‍ മുതലെടുക്കുകയാണ്. ഭരണകൂടത്തിനെതിരെ സംസാരിക്കാനുള്ള അവകാശത്തെ സംരക്ഷിക്കണമെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. കെ.എം കമല്‍ മോഡറേറ്ററായിരുന്നു. അക്കാദമി ചെയര്‍മാന്‍ കമല്‍, ചെലവൂര്‍ വേണു എന്നിവര്‍ പങ്കെടുത്തു.

Art to heal wounds: IFFK to feature 160 films from 72 countries

As the state is steadily recovering from the ravages of the flood, the 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala, which commences on 7th December, will feature over 160 films from 72 countries. 11 packages of films including 'The Human Spirit: Films on Hope and Rebuilding' which reflects the efforts of overcoming struggles, will be screened as part of the festival. The category includes six films - Jayaraj's 'Vellapokkathil', Mel Gibson's 'Apocalypto', Benh Zeitlin's 'Beasts of The Southern Wind', Fisher Steven's 'Before The Flood', Justin Chadwick's 'Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom', and Wim Wenders's 'Pope Francis: A Man of His Word'. Kerala, though was struck hard by the unexpected rainfall and deluge, thanks to its united, systematic approach and response, is racing up the lane of recovery.
