The saga of a deluge: Vellapokkathil at the IFFK





With the message of hope, ‘Vellapokkathil’ will be screened at the 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).

The film from Malayalam Cinema's veteran director Jayaraj is based on Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai’s short story of the same title. The film was the recipient of the 2007 National Film Award for Best Non-Feature Film Direction.  

It will be screened under the ‘The Human Spirit: Films on Hope and Rebuilding’ package. Set in the backdrop of the 1924 floods, the film revolves around a pet dog - Appu - who gets isolated in the deluge.  

As a mark of respect to Nelson Mandela, Justin Chadwick’s ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ will be screened under the package as part of the revolutionary leader’s birth centenary. Mel Gibson’s ‘Apocalypto’, Benh Zeitlin’s ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’, Fisher Stevens’s ‘Before the Flood’, and Wim Wenders’s ‘Pope Francis: A Man of His Word’, are the other films included in the package.

Dark Room wins Best Film: IFFK comes to a close

·          Pellissery Best Director ·          Sudani From Nigeria Best Malayalam Film 'Dark Room' won the Golden Crow Pheasant for the Best Film in International Competition at the Closing Ceremony of the 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala. IFFK Closing Ceremony Today (Dec 13)

The 23 rd edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala, after a week of film-viewing experience, will come to an end today (Dec 13) evening. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the Closing Ceremony in Nishagandhi Auditorium at 6 PM. A K Balan, Minister for Welfare for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes, Law, Culture and Parliamentary Affairs, will preside over the ceremony. V S Sunil Kumar, Minister for Agriculture will be the Chief Guest. A K Balan will distribute the Media Awards. V S Sivakumar MLA, Kamal, Chairman, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, Bina Paul, Vice Chairperson, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, Mahesh Panju, Secretary, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, will participate in the ceremony.
