“You can adjust everything in the digital world, and cinematography is a collaborative part of story-telling. I as a filmmaker am happy to use all the tools and controls of the digital medium. Everything is the same, digital creativity is an extension of organic creativity”, said Anil Mehta, National Film Award winning cinematographer at the IFFK. He was conducting a Master Class on cinematography for cinephiles and film students.
Though changes and technical advancements have always happened, the fundamentals of cinematography have always been the same, opined the cinematographer, who is known for his works including ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’ (1996), ‘Lagaan’ (2001),’ Saathiya’ (2002),’Veer-Zaara’ (2004), and ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ (2012). Mehta, who is also a screenwriter and director, explored the techniques and maneuvers that he employed in his films.
Bina Paul, Vice Chairperson, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, Dr. Ambadi, Director, K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Sciences and Arts (KRNNIVSA), and Harikumar, Chairman, KRNNIVSA, participated in the class that was organized by the Chalachitra Academy in association with KRNNIVSA.
